We helped Shoprite with the design, development and implementation of Datarite, the first data integration hub. This is a central repository for all of the data collected by the organisation. From its inception 10 years ago, this system made with old-school tools is still in use today.
We played an integral part of Customer Central, which was a giant leap forward in IT, as it combined customers with data. This project brought the human factor to data. This was around the introduction of the POPI Act, and we were mindful of keeping personal customer information secure right from the coding phase.
We were part of the Data Migration team on the CORE3 project – the largest retail data migration in the history of SAP. This project went on to win the SAP Gold Award for business transformation for IS Retail Implementation. https://news.sap.com/africa/2018/04/sap-africa-honours-digital-transformation-leaders-at-gala-quality-awards-event/ About half of the Data Migration team on the CORE3 project at the time of the award were Datonomy team members. A core member of this team was Aidan Quinn.
We work closely with various business units to ensure the development, execution and embedding of a data management strategy and data policies across the Shoprite enterprise. This includes direction and oversight for the design, development, operation and support of data quality, data risk and security, as well as data governance.

Datonomy’s data professionals are out-the-box thinkers. When asked by Woolworths and WFS to propose migrating their database from Informix onto their new Oracle data warehouse, Datonomy opted for the option to utilise a software product with adaptors on the Informix and Oracle end-points to successfully migrate the data warehouse. Datonomy managed to do the migration with only 4 resources over a 10 month period when our competitors were proposing 20+ resources and a duration of well over 15 months.
